Che and Concorde

Che and Concorde, 2003-2006.

Che and Concorde combines two stunning visuals, once energetic and powerful but now obsolete. One is a symbol of revolution, the other of technological advancement and aesthetic perfection. The combined lost potency of both, a sign of my times. The new composite image is at once an expression of political disillusion and a token [OK? need ‘a something of’] of nostalgia for more idealistic times.

Original project produced in booklet format for the Whitney Biennial catalogue, 2004. Size: 5' x 7', 8 pages. Download a PDF version of the booklet HERE

A second version of the project, a full-scale poster with free distribution, was my contribution to the exhibition ‘Communism’ in Dublin (2005). For this occasion we had located Jim Fitzpatrick, the original designer of the Che poster, who was living in Ireland. I made a phone interview with Jim that was printed on the back of the poster. READ the interview HERE.

More original collages on the theme, using variations on the Che poster from all over the world in combination with archival images of the Concorde were further created in 2006 as part of my show ‘Mouvement organisé’ at Laurent Godin Gallery in Paris. See installation shots HERE.

Che and Apple, 2003.

I made a second version of this project for a temporary web site gallery curated by Claude Closky at le Magasin. Claude’s idea of the web is maximum thought and minimum technology. See all other projects here: http:// www.magasin-cnac.org/
