During the production of Plane Landing (2001–3) I was simply waiting for the engineers in the factory to develop the actual plane—as once I had handed over the basic idea, there was very little for me to do. So to sustain my interest in aviation, I used the first technical drawings from the factory and started doing collages on the side. They are depictions of the plane set against a wide variety of landscapes, a vision I was imagining could become a reality one day. But because the actual realization of the work was still so far away, I guess I must have let my mind drift. The results are a mix of probable locations and jokes on the theme. There are unlimited variations on this work, but the two versions below were exhibited at greengrassi, London, 2003–4.
