Frieze Art FairYEARBOOK 2003-4
Aleksandra Mir
Born 1967
Lives New York
Aleksandra Mir's work could be described as a
practical sociology that, as Will Bradley has
written in frieze, 'makes visible the gap between
the scale and power of art and that of other
forces at work in the world'. From 'Hello'
(2000-ongoing)her potentially endless
archival demonstration of the six degrees of
separation theoryto 'Pink Tank's' (2002)
day-glo reconfiguration of Soviet military might
and Stonehenge II (2003) (a proposal for a
replica Stonehenge visitors can actually enjoy
up close). Mir's social interventions are as
fiercely analytical as they are generous in spirit.
