Aleksandra Mir
by JVO

Arte y Parte, #83, Malaga, Oct - Nov 2009.

Of Swedish nationality, Aleksandra Mir was born in 1967 in Lubin (Poland) although nowadays she is living between New York – and lately Palermo. Formed as an artist in the USA, when asked about her influences, she responds she feels close to artists of the sixties and seventies: Fluxus, Allan Kaprow, Eleanor Antin, Vito Acconci, Hannah Wilke, Ray Johnson, among others. These are the artists she met in her art school in New York in the early nineties, although for her generation another space should correspond. Her career begins in the middle of this decade and from then she works with most diverse procedures; photography, video, performance, writing… She has participated in the last Venice edition with an intervention based on thousands of postcards handed among the public that ironically evoked water. The game and the interactivity are common elements in her work. Now, in her second solo exhibition in Galeria Joan Prats, she presents a series of objects and images that are sort of a reflection on the representation of cult images.
