Ed è manipolando soprattutto immagini religiose, espressione di un culto popolare radicato a Palermo, dove ha vissuto negli ultimi cinque anni, che Aleksandra Mir ha realizzato i venti lavori di "Il sogno e la promessa". Per la prima personale in Italia la 43enne artista polacca - ma newyorkese di formazione - ha ripreso i motivi ricorrenti della sua ossessione: lo spazio. La prima donna sulla luna (titolo della sua performance d' esordio nel 1999) ha combinato santini e foto di missili, il cielo negli occhi dei fedeli e quello nelle mani dell' uomo, ripescando ironia e tecnica (i collage) cari al dadaismo di Schwitters. The moon is the attribute of Phoebe. But you can find it also by the foot of the Virgin Mary. And it’s by manipulating mostly religious images of a folkloric bent rooted in Palermo, where she spent the last five years, that Aleksandra Mir has realized the twenty works of Il Sogno e la Promessa. For her first solo show in Italy, the 43 year old Poland-born artist – grown artistically in New York – has recovered the motif that recurs in her obsession: space. The ‘first woman on the moon’ (the title of her performance from 1999) has combined photos of icons and missiles, the sky in the eyes of the faithful and the one in the hands of men, recovering the irony and technique (the collage) that were held dear to Schwitters’ Dadaism.
